Whoever we do not find, you do not pay for
You pay the maximum up front. At handover we count whom we did not find and refund $9 (€8) for each to your card within 10 days of handover.
Example: up to 30 ancestors
- you pay up front, never more
- $270 (€240)
- we found 26, we refund 4 × $9 (€8)
- −$36 (€32)
- it costs you
- $234 (€208)
You choose which side of the family and how many ancestors at most in your family tree. You pay by card. How long the search takes depends on the number of ancestors: 5 to 10 ancestors usually within a week, larger searches within two to three weeks.
How far back we can see
The older the book, the more work
We search back to about 1780, where the registers name the parents and house numbers. Ancestors from before 1780 and the houses of other relatives cost $24 (€22) for each one we find and back with a record. One round covers up to 5 ancestors, so $120 (€110). You pay in advance through a link we send you, and for each one we do not find, we refund $24 (€22).

1910 to 1784 Why 1784? A patent of Joseph II of 20 February 1784 ordered every parish to keep three separate books (births, marriages and deaths) and to write in printed columns: house number, name, sex, parents, godparents, religion. The same form lasted with small changes until 1949. From then on the priest could leave nothing out, so we find everyone who is in the book.
almost everyone
usually 90 to 100 % of ancestors

1784 to 1700 Why 1700? No law here, just experience with the books: in the 1600s every priest wrote his own way, in Latin and often with only the father's name. Villages got house numbers only in 1770 and 1771, in a census for the army under Maria Theresa; until then a house was known only by the name of the farmer. The closer to 1784, the more records name both parents and the house.
usually
Moravia 65 to 80 %, Bohemia 45 to 70 %

1700 to 1650 Why 1650? The Council of Trent ordered parishes to keep books of baptisms and marriages as early as 1563; in Moravia the Olomouc synod confirmed it in 1591, in Bohemia the Prague synod in 1605. Then came the Thirty Years' War (1618 to 1648): parishes burned, priests fled and the books went with them. The oldest surviving Czech register is from Jáchymov, from 1531, but unbroken series for most parishes begin only in the second half of the 1600s.
with luck
only some parishes, no promise

before 1650 What comes before the registers? Tax surveys after the war: in Bohemia the tax roll of 1654, in Moravia the land registers of 1669 to 1679. For every farm there is the name of the farmer and how much land he had. Land books reach even further, where the manor recorded who bought a farm and how he paid for it, in places as early as the 1500s. In them we find the farmer, not his wife and children.
beyond the registers
only whoever held a farm
